Looking at the vast history of the industry in Birmingham and the landscape it has shaped it’s produced a lot of marvellous infrastructure and different styles of architecture throughout it. I decided to focus on the visual landscape of Birmingham and illustrate places I found beautiful to visit when I have been up there. The old grand architecture around the central library (through its many iterations) and its brutalist buildings help frame a lovely landscape design within an image. It’s fascinating to me as well that these places of business have become havens for skateboarding/BMX/scootering activities as well due to their flat landscape and layered levels, thus unintentionally inspiring another sector of Birmingham’s cultural landscape to repurpose the business minded aesthetics of these places into an urban cultural hotspot for those into extreme sports.
